BIG TECH BLUES, 2024, FILM ESSAY, 4K, 50 MIN

(under arbeid)

(IN PROGRESS)

Film-essay about digital industry silently positioning itself in sub-arctic Norway, as well as in other rural parts of the world.

The starting point for this exploration is the filmmaker´s own childhood school in a small arctic village, which was abandoned and bought up by Elon Musk´s SpaceX programme. The plans of setting up antennas in the village created a local uprising - yet the filmmaker tries to go beyond and reflect - what benefit is there for local communities to host  antennas, data storage and servers for krypto-mining?  What do these companies give in return? Are we speaking of innovation and possibility, or some sort of extractionism? What is at stake?
